The quickest way to improve your analogue photography skills, is to learn directly from an experienced photographer through attending an intensive (1 maximal 2 People) Workshop. In cooperation with Kunsthaus e.V.and beginning at the end of November, I am offering the following three workshops:

Course A

The Fine Art Print: A master class with the photographer D.S. Allen (Berlin/London)

www.dsallen.de

How to achieve high quality archival analogue black and white photos?

Course for students who have previous experience with black and white photography

1 1/2 day course | Language: German or English

Every day of the week (except Tuesdays) by appointment

Number of participants: minimum 1 and maximum 2 persons

Course is inclusive of all chemicals other than photo paper, which will be calculated on a cost per sheet basis.

First day from 10am to 4pm (in the darkroom).

We will concentrate on enlarging negatives (on Baryta paper).

Six hours in the darkroom is a long time! – so please bring something to eat

We will develop the photographic prints to the highest quality standards. During the development process I will explain how different approaches to development influence the final results. After the end of the first day’s course, I will wash and dry the photos (to reach Archival Standards) because this is very time consuming.

Second day(a week later) 10am – 1.30pm (in the darkroom).

We will focus on reviewing the prints made during the previous week. We will also view and discuss a selection my own photographs with regard to technique. We will then discuss how best to present photographs with a particular emphasis on archival materials. Finally, I will provide each student with individual advice about how to continue developing their technique. After your have participated in this course, I can offer you personal advice and support in your our own darkroom or by e-mail / telephone.

Course B

Analogue black and white urban landscapes | 4 hour course | 11am – 3pm |

Language: German or English.

Saturdays or by appointment for a group of photographers.

Number of participants: minimum 2 and maximum of 6 people.

Participants must bring their own cameras and materials.

The course starts at 11am (in the darkroom) with an hour of viewing / discussion of my urban landscapes. After that I will lead you on a 3 hour walk-about around Prenzlauer Berg making photographs with practical advice and guidance from myself.

Course C

For beginners who want to quickly achieve high quality.

How do you achieve perfect black and white negatives as the basis for making consistently high quality analogue B&W photographs?

5 hour course | 10am – 3pm | Language: German or English.

Every day of the week (except Tuesdays) by appointment.

Number of participants: minimum 1 and maximum 2 persons.

Course is inclusive of all chemicals except film ( please bring your favorite with you) and photo paper (which is calculated on cost per sheet basis).

We undertake a series of tests to determine the correct DIN / ISO rating for your film when exposed using your camera and the corresponding development time (as opposed to what the manufacturer recommends). After this, we will discuss how you can use this knowledge, and related exposure technique, to make consistently well exposed and developed negatives.
